A CHILL IN THE AIR!

Get ready for the 4th - and final - series of
The Wireless Chronicles
A little rehearsal fun for I SPY

I SPY - opening 11-15 March. ##PRODUCTION DEFERRED DUE TO COVOID19 ...Stay Tuned

The Wireless Chronicles  is an evening at the wireless - a Live Radio Play interspersed with the music and stories of the decade.

There are 4 in the series - set in the 20s, through to the 50s.  Each episode comprises a Cast delivering the Radio Play  - The Devious Digit of Destiny – (aka the Fickle Finger of Fate) as if in a radio station, live.  Hence the episodes are ‘read’ and using props and sound effects to enhance the audience experience.
I SPY is set in the 1950s,  the era of the Cold War -  a decade which saw the birth of rock and roll, and the arrival of television in Australia.

The Players for Series 4 are;  writer/producer Maureen O’Brien; Stevi Cannon; Grant Bailey; John Dickeson; Amanda Broberg; David Benge, and guitarist/sound effects wizard Peter Sesselmann. Maureen will share a plethora of anecdotes from the era and the cast will perform a selection of the great songs from the 50s.

Devotee’s of the series will no doubt be waiting to hear the fate of the characters in the DDoD which is a wacky gangster-cum-spy farce that includes some riotous antics including a car chase... (yes! On live radio!)    .......

4 shows only and booking is recommended for those performances which include catering and can be made on 0421 072 444  OR via emailbookings@maureen.com.au

Steaming Ahead

Holy Smoke!  or should that be Holy Steam from the locomotive that's been going full steam ahead since the year started!  I can't believe it's May already.

The second series of the Wireless Chronicles was an absolute hoot and I'll probably do an encore performance before series 3 happens later in the year so if you missed the opportunity to catch it in April, try again.  [There'll be a taste of No.#2 on the blog's page in the next couple of weeks - check back in again]

Currently I'm working on TWO recording projects, a new album of my own, plus a CD with Ruby Blue [the duo with Anousha Victoire ~Americana Roots music].  More on the album as it progresses closer to completion but once again I'm back in the Funky Lizard studio with the excellent skills of  Robbie Long.

Coming up next month is the Drench and Launders Comedy Outing with Stevi Cannon ...and a whole swag of new laughs to share.  And if you haven't been keeping tabs on my YouTube Channel,  then it might be time to check it out ...here's the link:  https://www.youtube.com/user/mozluminous/videos  ... there's a bunch of new video's up there including some you won't find on an album and some you may not have heard yet if you haven't been along to any of the theatre productions.

and last but not in the very least,  there'll be some encore concerts coming up in the second half of the year - in particular the Carole/Carly/Joni story which gained such great feedback when the re-vamped show was run early last year.

If you're not in the loop of what's happening when, it's free and easy to join my mailing list, or subscribe to this blog - you'll get notified when a new post goes up.  Alternately, become a Facebook friend where everything gets posted frequently!

what a year!

Gosh readers,
I can't begin to tell you what an extraordinary year its been musically!

From directing 2 festivals and an annual community concert.....3 tours.....writing/directing/producing my first musical.....organising local music initiatives.....supporting various fundraisers ...writing new songs.....and various commercial gigs locally.....forming a new comedy duo and writing material for it ......no wonder I'm feeling exhausted!

There's been a couple of low points but mostly some great memories made this year. I've just come back from the Folk in Broke Music Festival and am, once again, blown away by the enormous wealth of talent this country has .....largely undiscovered. And its so sad that so many of our creative souls have to go overseas to get the recognition that they so richly deserve.

My last initiative is this coming Saturday night - its Comedy Night at the RX Theatre in Newcastle - and then I'll be ready to kick back and catch up on all the social that I've missed out on this year. [can't fit it all in, can you? or can you??]

I hope you've managed to get out there and support some live music/performance a few times this year - remember that if it's not supported it will not survive...and what sort of a legacy is THAT to leave the next generation?

A Little Fresh Air 'n Exercise!

This is a track from the Many Shades of Blue Album and is a tongue-in-cheek stab at the "get fit" campaigns which bombards us daily.

I have a real issue with a society that tells its young women [and men!] that they can only be happy, accepted, loved, if they fit the standard mold -that is, beautiful, thin [or muscular if you're male]. Is it any wonder that we've raised generations of young people who are obsessed with image, crippled by neuroses because they're "different"?! Surely there's something bizarre about a culture that celebrates an industry solely focused on surgical and medical procedures which change a persons appearance? Supported by spin-off industries which market their products to convince people that how they look is unacceptable.

The reality is that every single one of us on this earth is absolute unique. Each one of us is our own unique size, shape, colouring. And until we as humans can celebrate that uniqueness, find joy in the 'different', get past the external facade to recognise the divine inspiration of our individuality, we will never find the inner peace that comes with acceptance.

So this song was my way of standing up and saying that I am loved....I have been loved...and I will be loved...by wonderful men who care little about my external paintwork and everything about my internal landscape.

I took a comedic approach and the story in a nutshell is this......
"the tv tells us that Aussies are too fat, the doctor says trim down with a little fresh air and exercise, my gym gear turns my hubby on! and his idea of exercise is of the bedroom type! He's even got an answer for the fresh air and a solution for a smaller dress size"

It's a fun song to sing along with and if you'd like a FREE COPY just email me and ask - I'll happily send you a free MP3 via email.
